DescriptionPreview

The international discussion about sustainability has taken new dimensions through the wave of attention and development of the circular economy. The circular economy goes beyond the intention of not harming the environment as the circular economy refers to an industrial economy that is restorative by intention; aims to rely on renewable energy; minimises, tracks, and eliminates the use of toxic chemicals; and eradicates waste through careful design. This shifts the focus from current linear ‘take-make-dispose’ model of production into a ‘reduce-reuse-recycle’ mentality. This literature study will look into the implementation of the circular economy in the built environment sector, specifically individual buildings, using building circularity indicators. This literature study is fundamental knowledge for further research towards an assessment model to determine the buildings’ level of circularity.
